While we know smoking still causes a number of deaths each year, new research has shown those smokers who began the earliest (less than 15 years old) have the greatest increase in death. Current smokers had a nearly 3 times the risk of premature cardiovascular deaths compared to never smokers! This risk was highest among those who started smoking prior to 15 years old and even higher if started before 10 years old! Quitting smoking at ANY AGE lowers the risk, especially if you quit before age 40. It is never too early to quit! For more information please visit: The Journal of the American Heart Association.
