Midwifery program in Denver
The goal of our CNMs is to help you feel heard, cared for and supported in your health throughout your lifetime. Our midwives offer full-spectrum obstetric services to patients in the Denver metropolitan area, which include support throughout pregnancy and childbirth as well as gynecologic services.
What is a midwife?
A midwife is a medical professional who provides prenatal, labor and delivery and postpartum care. They can also provide routine gynecologic care to women of all ages. Our certified nurse midwives are registered nurses with specialized, advanced training and certification in women’s care.
Why choose a midwife?
Women who choose a midwife for their prenatal care generally are interested in natural childbirth, also known as unmedicated childbirth. You might also desire to have a provider who shares a holistic care philosophy.
CNMs support you in your goal to have as few medical interventions as possible. They are experienced with non-medical treatments to support your care. They also focus on providing emotional and psychological support, as well as physical care during your pregnancy.
CNMs work closely with each patient to understand their goals and expectations for pregnancy and childbirth. We’re open to various care strategies that can provide the best outcomes and lead to a happy and healthy mom and baby.
What does a midwife do?
Much like an obstetrician (OB), CNMs provide education, counseling and clinical care before and during your pregnancy such as:
- Performing prenatal exams and testing requests
- Monitoring your overall well-being during pregnancy
- Addressing health concerns such as diet, exercise and medications during pregnancy
- Collaborating with other providers on high-risk pregnancy
- Performing pelvic ultrasounds
- Helping create your birth plan
- Handling pregnancy complications
- Assisting with cesarean sections
- Providing referrals to one of our physicians as necessary
- Counseling on family planning and preconception services
Your midwife will also support you during childbirth and postpartum. Our CNMs and expert physicians have a collaborative relationship, working seamlessly on behalf of each patient. During your pregnancy journey, you’ll have the comfort of knowing that leading gynecologists and obstetricians are just a few steps away.
Our practices have many providers who offer a wide range of services for a woman’s lifetime care journey, from a teenager’s first menstrual cycle through menopause. As an integral partner of our teams of women’s healthcare professionals, our CNMs are also available for:
- Annual gynecologic care and exams
- Breast exams
- Contraception counseling
- Etonogestrel implant insertion and removal
- Intrauterine device (IUD) insertion and removal
- Menopausal care
- Pap smears
- Physician referrals
- Sexually transmitted infections (STI)
